Make the most out of your event band on your big day with a few quick tips from the pros.
Ceremony Music
Look no further than your reception band when coordinating music for your ceremony. They should be capable and happy to provide the right mix of soothing ambiance, romantic renditions of popular songs, or classic wedding hymns. Lightly strummed acoustic guitar provides a soft contemporary touch or the keyboardist could provide a timeless wedding soundtrack for you and your guests. If you hired a band for your reception, the band will already be on-site and set up before the ceremony begins, so it is cost effective to ask them to play for the ceremony instead of hiring additional musicians.
Emcee Skills
You hired your event band to take guests through an unforgettably entertaining evening of music and dancing. Lean on them to deliver essential Emcee skills! It will help your event effortlessly flow to success. An adept Master of Ceremonies (AKA MC, or Emcee) adds a level of sophistication and refinement to an event and will certainly elevate the outcome of the evening. (Pro Tip: If a wacky uncle or wild-card friend offers (or begs) to Emcee your event, tell them your band typically handles it 😉 )
Sound Reinforcement (Mics, Speakers, Etc.)
Often times your venue may not have sound equipment in place where you need it. For example, at outdoor weddings, this is the norm. Look to your band for help and expertise! Your event band should travel with plenty of top-quality gear that you can use. Ask your band to bring some extra sound equipment to set up where you need it. A simple wireless mic and a powered speaker or two should do the trick, and chances are, they will be happy to assist. Take full advantage of their knowledge and of their gear! (Pro Tip: Confirm with your band that their sound equipment looks as good as it sounds. You don’t want a speaker that looks like it’s been on a world tour with a hair band at your event. Chances are it will be tucked away from view, but just in case!)
